First festival of cupcakes

The stars aligned and I managed to go to an actual cupcake festival this month. My destination was the Hudson Valley Cupcake Festival, a scenic 90-minute train ride north of New York City.

Sponsored by pop-music station K104.7, the May 14 event took place near Beacon, N.Y., at Heritage Financial Park, home of the Hudson Valley Renegades baseball team. Admission was free. Attendees purchased their selections from more than three dozen vendors of cupcakes, other food, and merchandise.

I sampled cupcakes from three bakeries.

The garden cupcake from Norma’s Corner was made with carrots, zucchini, and beets.
The linzer tarte from Whipped Cupcakes.
The Dessert Destiny apple crumb cupcake was cinnamon cake with apple pie filling.

Days later, Rina’s Vegan Treats was named winner of the festival’s competition.

This being my year of Cupcake Nation, I’m eyeing other cupcake festivals to attend in the coming months. It’s a big country with a lot of cupcakes to investigate. Duty calls.
