In this Year of Cupcakes in the Delicious Metropolis, the cupcakes are indeed populating the metropolis. Of the three cupcakeries I study in depth, two have opened stores this year. We’re now over two decades into the modern cupcake era and new bakeries continue to open in response to consumer demand.
Magnolia Bakery opened in the Hudson Yards shopping center on Manhattan’s west side.
Sprinkles opened in the Northern California town of San Ramon in early February.
Rewinding to late 2021, Sprinkles opened a second Houston bakery.
Cupcake Royale of Seattle opened in 2003 and plays an important role in modern cupcake history. It opened a new store in December.
Sprinkles and Magnolia have announced growth plans that include opening more company stores, increasing online product offerings, and/or franchising domestically and internationally. The corporate strategists know this: Cupcakes pair with the delicious metropolis like peanut butter and jam — and the popular appeal endures.
