Sprinkles and Crumbs of news

Leading cupcakeries are introducing novelties and otherwise making news to conclude this Year of Cupcakes in the Delicious Metropolis.

Delivering on a plan it foreshadowed in September 2021, Sprinkles opened the first domestic franchise in Utah in December.

The company envisions 100 domestic franchises and 100 international locations by 2026.

It also added packaged frosting to its online products.

Sprinkles quietly closed its New York City store in Brookfield Place, a downtown Manhattan shopping mall. In October, another bakery opened in the food court location that Sprinkles previously occupied. This leaves just one Sprinkles in the city, down from a peak of three. The remaining Upper East Side store no longer has a cupcake ATM or inside tables, making it effectively a pick-up location.

Crumbs delivered on its pledge to retail at grocery stores. Its new line of cookies is now sold at Westside Markets in New York. It advises fans to “Stay tuned! Cupcakes are coming soon.”

Reviewing the activity since its early November relaunch, Crumbs teases more consumer engagement to come.
