Last night I attended the 50th anniversary of my University of California San Diego student newspaper, for which I was a writer/editor in the late ’80s. It was my first trip back to campus in 25 years. I was overwhelmed. There was cake.

In July, I celebrated the centennial anniversary since the first commercial crop of blueberries was sold as a consumer product. When a trade association pulls a marketing stunt to offer free cupcakes, research is required. I was live on the scene when Sprinkles opened at 9 a.m. to celebrate its 10th anniversary in April.
