The first D.C.-area Smallcakes Cupcakery opened in Northern Virginia in July 2018. Smallcakes is a Kansas-based company with more than 200 domestic and international stores.
The Northern Virginia store recently moved to a different city and held a grand opening party. Company founder Jeff Martin came to support the celebration.
Going to a place that looks like this, I feel transported to the heartland and far from my rotation of cosmopolitan D.C., New York, and L.A. cupcakeries.

I’m happy to have new homework via my recent acquisition of Martin’s cookbook, Buttercream Dreams. I look forward to visiting the Kansas corporate headquarters when I’m fully immersed in writing my book next year.
