The first cake I ever baked was carrot. Not knowing what I was doing, I attentively followed the recipe and baked a spell-binding success. Carrots have assumed iconic status in my home baking trajectory.
This week, I used National Cook a Sweet Potato Day as an excuse to try savory baking. I made my first pie crust, a savory wheat tart crust for a curried sweet potato galette. I followed a recipe in How to Bake Everything by Mark Bittman. Be still my heart, Bittman himself liked my post below. Insert teenage squeal. Long live lucky orange.
