A decade of cake pops

It’s the 10-year anniversary of the curious cake pop invention.

Bakerella is widely considered the inventor of these two-bite fusions of cake and frosting on a stick. Two years ago, Baked by Yael opened the first D.C. storefront dedicated to them. Having written about the latter, I’m invested. Therefore, duty calls and field research is required.

Here is evidence of my National Cake Pop Day visit to Baked by Yael.

March 2018 addition:

I did suburban field research on March 1 and found cakepops at the two bakeries I visited. Since they’re rare here in the city, I asked a bakery owner about their popularity out there. Apparently they are quite the thing in parts of Northern Virginia. News to me.
