The skilled craftswomen behind Buttercream Bakeshop devised a tasty pay-it-forward scheme to spread kindness.
The #RememberToBeKind campaign invites customers to buy baked goods for one another. Gifts are affixed to a board behind the register and given to customers upon request. If you’re having a bad day, you can ask for a little piece of kindness and receive a pre-paid treat — momentary relief from natural disasters, political discord and other heavy-hearted matters du jour.
The #RememberToBeKind campaign runs through September.
The sentiment is reminiscent of Dorie Greenspan’s #cookiesandkindness campaign. Greenspan espoused a “bake-and-release” philosophy and published a monthly cookie recipe to serve the cause. In order to complete her next book, the inimitable cookie expert ended the formal campaign in August.
Buttercream converted the concept into a pay-it-forward model. It’s all good, literally.
Buttercream customers are invited to write nice notes to gift recipients. Instead, I wrote an acrostic poem.

Again.
Sprinkles Cupcakes and the solar eclipse inspired my first such creative impulse. I’m making this A Thing. Welcome to the genre of cupcake acrostic poetry.
